first bat

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 5:40 PM
no particular breed (as far as i know) i just followed the ref. i did look up bat noses because the nose on the ref is a bit obscure and man do bats ever have strange noses o.O

this guy looks better in person, the pictures pick up the glare of the shiny red fur and the black around the eyes way more than the human eye does, plus i wish i had better lighting >_<

his expression is supposed to be "friendly stoner surfer with a very dark, sadistic side. The polite, friendly serial killer, lol" which are contradicting expressions so it was hard to pull off, i got the friendly part ...and hopefully him being devil colored is enough for the evil part XD

Christmasy stuff

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 5:36 PM
Who among you out there has ever dressed up your fursuit kinda Christmasy or with that Santa like look? Anybody have any pictures to theirs or someone else's? I'm looking for some quick Ideas that I can try with a partial I have for a Christmas parade at the beginning of Dec.

Thanks!

Who made the bloody skull fursuit?

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 1:22 PM
Hi everyone!
Someone on this board made a zombie/bone wolf fursuit, right? It was all bloody and mostly bone colored. I was wondering if I could ask where they heck they got the foam skull base. I swear I had the maker's contact info but i can't seem to find it anywhere. If anyone can email it to me at aazhie @ gmail.com I would be eternally greatful!

And kudos to the zombie maker, it turned out really nice the last pics I saw of it!

"Safest" method to attach eyes.

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 2:59 PM
Hi everyone. Quick question: what would be the best method to attach my finished plastic bowl eyes to the head? I have some reservations about using hot glue or the like, because of the potential to rip or mangle the fur underneath (especially if I need to reposition them). Any info would be a big help! =3

Starter Suit!

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 11:42 AM
So I'm looking to make my first partial, stuck between a goat and a horse and a llama! But what I'm really wondering is if I should try the balaclava (sp?) with plastic mesh or foam for my first try.

Is one deemed easier to fix than another? Or is one recommended for a certain head shape?

Thanks guys <3

Just wondering...

I am going to be making a fursuit for my boyfriend, I have the foam, but no fur yet. I know where I'm getting the fur so no help needed on that. I was just wondering about the foaming part. Is it okay if I use fiberglass to cover the foam to make it a whole hell of a lot stronger? The reason why I want to do this... he might wear it playing airsoft... so extra protection for his face.

What would happen

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 10:26 AM
I was wondering since you can take long pile fur and sew it on with the grain facing backwards. Would it work if you took a weft and sewed/glued it like that? Or do wefts not work that way? If they do actually work that way. Has any one ever done this and achieved a mohawk affect ? Like a big mohawk. Like take what ever way it appears to be laying and make the weft go against the fur grain.

Neoprene question.

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 11:14 AM
Would anyone know what type of neoprene is used on a dive suit (wet suit), as well as where to find black 3mm / 1/8" thick neoprene? For types, I've been seeing foam and rubber.

Marmite the Mutt is finally finished :)

  • Nov. 15th, 2009 at 9:50 AM
After a few months I have finally finished Marmite (aside from a few tweaks, but SHHH :P)
This is my first head using the balaclava and foam method, my first bodysuit, and my first pair of footpaws.
Loads of big pics under the cut :D

hmmmmmm....

http://www.thefoamfactory.com/outdoorfoam/outdoorfoam.html
"Dryfast foam's large cells allow it to dry quickly after being wet or even completely saturated. Long lasting Dryfast foam is excellent for outdoor patio furniture"

so would that not make it ideal for body padding and digigrade leg padding?
hmmm?

i mean the main concern with washing foam is it drying before mildew sets in.
and it is easier to just glue or sew padding in than it is to make it removable.

i'm gonna order some and se how it is to work with

I made my maquette for Willem's head today. I used Super Sculpey. First time I tried it. I bought the package about 10 years ago on sale somewhere. I hope these pictures work out alright:

Clippers

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 5:16 PM
Anyone have any experience with these pet clippers? www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do Good, bad? Im looking for some cheap starter clippers and something that can serve double duty for my dog lol
Aside from wanting to show what Ive been up to, I thought this might be a helpful visual to folks trying to figure out how to do patterns for heads useing the ductape method : )

The mask itself is use-your-own-eyes style, and made from a latex base, wich includes the beak, so its all very light weight. Jawmovement is very nice since the corner of the mouth bends naturally. Beak is coated with plastidip. This build will be available for commission is the future, I think, if all goes well.

Edit: oops, forgot about the pic sizeing thing, here just click the link instead : )http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n97/Artsquish/wipbirdhead.jpg

So I'm working more on my Crux head and I'm having a hard time getting the eyes right. I was going to try to follow Matrices eye method as it's what I know best, and I'm trying to make it look as close to the Crux in SecondLife as possible. However when I did the paper eye preview thing over my foam head WIP it looked really crazy and not quite right. I know a lot of people might say well 'thats just how the Crux looks' (because well, they are kind of strange looking to most) yet it still just doesn't sit right with me, I feel like I'm not doin it right.

Looking at the Crux head Beastcub built I was hoping to get some sort of better idea on how to do mine but seeing as how she used taxidermy eyes (a completely different method altogether) it wasn't much help. And I want to include the white part of the eyes on my Crux head as well to keep with keeping it as close to the SL version as possible.

Any tips, ideas? Or am I just crazy & should I just nut up and do it?

OMG Triceratops!
